Why It Matters
A genuine rarity: a true luxury boutique in a city that has almost none. The former bank vault-turned-wine-cellar, the cathedral-like atrium, and the pedigree of a Michelin-starred chef (now running la volta on-site) make this the obvious first choice for design and food-minded visitors to Antwerp.
Hotel FRANQ occupies a striking neoclassical bank building on a quiet side street in Antwerp's historic centre. The original vault where Belgian Francs were once stored is now a wine cellar, and the soaring marble-pillared atrium where bankers once conducted business is where guests now lounge on velvet sofas. Rooms are finished with real care — pale wood floors, crisp linens, Clarins toiletries, Marshall Bluetooth speakers, and Nespresso machines — though the smallest start at a tight 17 sqm. At the end of 2024, the hotel parted ways with Relais & Châteaux and replaced its 1-Michelin-star restaurant with la volta, a more accessible Italian by the same chef, Tim Meuleneire.

The sweet spot for most guests. Runs 19–21 sqm with an extra-long king-size bed (180×210 cm), separate beds available on request. Same kit as the Small Classic — Nespresso, Clarins, Bluetooth speaker, minibar — but with a bit more breathing room. Rain shower, not bath.

Deluxe Room
Noticeably more space and a larger 48" smart TV. Elegantly furnished with luxurious chairs, a proper writing desk, and the same high-spec in-room amenities. This is the category where an extra bed becomes possible. Guests consistently call these 'spacious' by European boutique-hotel standards.
KingJunior Suite
One bedroom with an attached seating area — the separation makes a real difference. Walk-in shower and bath. Full suite amenities: 48" TV, Nespresso, Clarins products, minibar. Good for guests who want a proper sit-down space without going full separate living room.
KingLuxury Suite
The full package: a separate living room, one bedroom, and one bathroom with walk-in shower and bath. The most space available in the hotel. All top-tier in-room amenities included. Good for longer stays or guests who genuinely want a home-from-home in the heart of Antwerp's old town.
KingSmall Classic Room
The entry-level option. Honestly a bit snug at 17–19 sqm, but finished properly: king-size bed, rain shower, Clarins toiletries, Nespresso machine, free tea and water, 40" smart TV, Bluetooth speaker, minibar, and free WiFi. For a tight European city-centre room, it punches above its weight.

The hotel keeps four FRANQ-branded bicycles available for guest use. Antwerp's compact old town is very well suited to cycling. A half-day rental is particularly handy for reaching MAS Museum or the Red Star Line Museum.
A secluded leafy courtyard adjoining the wine cellar and restaurant. One of the best spots in the hotel in warmer months — sheltered from the street and genuinely peaceful for a city-centre location.
A properly equipped gym with Technogym kit: treadmill, cross trainer, exercise bike, and strength training equipment. Small but functional — you won't have to skip a workout.

The former bank vault has been converted into a wine cellar that opens onto a gastrobar and leafy courtyard. Worth exploring even if you don't eat in the restaurant — the space is architecturally striking and the wine selection is curated.
