Jusandi
Modernist minimalist architecture deeply rooted in Okinawan materials and subtropical nature. Think quiet white spaces, deliberate lighting design, and lush jungle-meets-sea surroundings — Santorini's palette with a Japanese sensibility.

Why It Matters
Twice awarded 2 Michelin Keys (2024 and 2025). One of Japan's smallest luxury villa retreats at just five villas. Architecture by Norihiko Dan. Italian-inflected multi-course dinner using Ryukyuan ingredients — reportedly one of the best dining experiences on Ishigaki. And direct access to one of Japan's most celebrated snorkeling sites, the Blue Cave.
Jusandi is five private pool villas perched on a cliff on the northern end of Ishigaki Island — Japan's far southwestern frontier, geographically closer to Taiwan than to Tokyo. Designed by architect Norihiko Dan (whose portfolio runs to office towers and international airports), the property is uncompromisingly minimalist: white walls built from Ryukyu limestone, wall-to-wall windows, and custom tropical wood furniture. The name itself, 'Yusandi,' means 'sunset' in the Yaeyama dialect, and the place lives up to it.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel offers curated special occasion arrangements — flowers, decorations, personalized touches for honeymoons, anniversaries, and birthdays. Arrange directly with the hotel.
The Blue Cave is directly accessible from the property — one of Japan's most celebrated snorkeling and diving sites. A coral-fringed cavern with extraordinary clarity and color, particularly dramatic in the morning light. Gear and tours can be arranged through the hotel.
Snorkeling at Yonehara Beach (13-minute walk) and canoeing are available nearby with equipment rental. The hotel concierge can assist with arrangements.
Arrange for breakfast to be served floating in your private pool on a tray — a signature experience at Jusandi. Best done on a clear morning when the subtropical light is at its best. Book in advance when making your reservation.
Each villa connects to a private beach cove via a short jungle trail. The 2-bedroom villa has the closest and most direct access. No shared beach infrastructure — genuinely private.
Each villa has its own 3.5×7m private pool with a gazebo and daybed. Entirely unseen from other villas. Beach towels, umbrellas, and sun loungers provided.
An outdoor retreat sauna experience bookable as an add-on. Positioned in nature, away from the main villa buildings. Limited availability — book ahead.
The property sits far from any town light pollution. On clear nights, the southern Japanese sky above Ishigaki is genuinely dark and the constellations are vivid. Best enjoyed from the private pool gazebo.
