La Minervetta
Quirky nautical maison — think deep blues and reds, Italian craft and Danish design sensibility, floor-to-ceiling sea views, and the feel of staying in a very stylish friend's cliffside home rather than a hotel.

Why It Matters
One of the few genuinely design-forward properties on the Amalfi coast. Featured in ELLE Decor and Condé Nast Traveller. Owner Marco De Luca trained at Domus Academy Milan under Ettore Sottsass and Gaetano Pesce — and it shows. The hotel has its own shop (Bazar Minervetta) selling ceramics, design objects, and Lisa Corti table linens dedicated to the property.
La Minervetta is a 12-room boutique hotel perched on the cliffs above Marina Grande, just outside Sorrento's historic center. It's the personal creation of Marco De Luca — set designer, interior designer, and grandson of the Danish-Italian couple who built the house in the 1950s. He took it back from third parties in 2006 and renovated it into what it is today: a bold, art-filled home that happens to rent rooms, where every corner is stacked with Memphis-collective pieces, Vietri ceramics, model sailing ships, Neapolitan folk objects, and works by Gaetano Pesce and Michelangelo Pistoletto.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel's associated shop, on the walk toward town, sells Marco De Luca's curated selection of design objects, ceramics, textiles, Lisa Corti table linens dedicated to the hotel, vintage Sorrentine prints, and coffee table books. Also available online at bazarminervetta.com.
The communal lounge doubles as a library and art gallery. Packed with coffee table books, design magazines, works by Memphis collective artists, and Marco De Luca's personal collections of curios, folk art, and design objects. Guests use it freely throughout the day.
The hotel can reserve a sun lounger at the private beach at La Tonnarella, just 200 metres from the property. Reservation required — staff will arrange on request.
A private cliffside staircase (around 300 steps) descends from the hotel through the terraced Mediterranean garden directly to the fishing village of Marina Grande. The climb back up is steep and strenuous — guests are advised to prepare accordingly. At the bottom: waterside trattorias, locals swimming, and the authentic harbour atmosphere of old Sorrento.
The terraced garden partway down the cliff opens on 1 May each year. It features a saltwater pool, a giant outdoor hydro massage tub, wooden loungers, towels, and Mediterranean plantings. The views from here — directly over Vesuvius and the bay — are among the best on the property.
Available in the area near the hotel. Staff can assist with arrangements.
