Manhattan Beach's first and only upscale boutique hotel, opened in 2005 on the historic site of the Metlox Pottery factory. Just 38 rooms, three blocks from the pier, and interiors designed by celebrity decorator Christopher Lowell — think chromatherapy lighting, soaking tubs for two, and Tempur-Pedic beds in every room. Founded by restaurateur Michael Zislis, so eating and drinking are as central to the experience as the rooms.

The signature room type and the most common configuration. Soft greens, blues, and rich wood tones create a beachy-but-refined vibe. Every room gets a California King Tempur-Pedic bed, an oversized freestanding soaking tub, a private balcony with seating for two, Keurig coffee machine, and the chromatherapy lighting system. First-floor versions have an additional daybed; second-floor rooms have Heat & Glo Cyclone fireplaces.

The signature junior suite — a corner unit with two separate balconies. Two distinct rooms give families or groups some breathing room. The California King plus a memory foam sleeper sofa makes it work for four people without feeling cramped. Soaking tub is in the bathroom, and the same modern coastal palette runs throughout.

The business-meets-beach option. Largest balcony in the hotel with views of Metlox Plaza action below. Has a proper private office with a boardroom table — genuinely useful for small meetings or work retreats. Separate dining and living area with a built-in desk and extended wet bar. Most spacious room in the property at 714 sq ft.

Top-floor retreat with a west-facing balcony — the one to book if you want ocean air and a romantic escape. Comes with complimentary California red and white wine. The bathroom is serious: Mr. Steam steam shower plus an oversized soaking tub. Most commonly used as a bridal suite. Can be combined with the Presidential Penthouse for a larger footprint.

Same footprint and features as the Deluxe Spa Room but oriented toward the lively Metlox Plaza rather than the courtyard. Soaking tub has a waterfall fill feature. Max occupancy of 2, so it skews toward couples. No daybed option.

The other top-floor suite, designed for relaxation and entertaining. Private entertaining bar with local craft beer on tap is a standout.
