Lebombo
Boldly contemporary and design-forward. Raw timber, steel, and layered earthy fabrics keep the interiors grounded while the glass does all the talking. Think adult treehouse with Michelin-level food and wine. Not rustic at all.
Ask for a suite toward the N'wanetsi River side for the best valley views — the vantage is wide enough to watch elephant and lion from your daybed.
Why It Matters
One of the most architecturally striking safari lodges in Africa, on a private concession with exclusive Big Five access. The culinary program — shaped by acclaimed Cape Town chef Liam Tomlin of Chefs Warehouse — brings restaurant-grade tapas-style dining to the middle of the Kruger. Add a three-storey wine studio, Conservation Lounge curated with local artists, and the Singita Community Culinary School on-site, and this is far more than a game lodge.
A genuine architectural statement in the middle of one of Africa's most remote wilderness areas. Singita Lebombo perches on a cliff above the N'wanetsi River in the far southeastern reaches of Kruger National Park — the design borrowed from the eagles' nests built into the cliffs below. Fifteen glass-walled, loft-style suites cantilever from the rock face with floor-to-ceiling glass dissolving the line between suite and bush. Singita's 33,000-acre private concession spans four distinct eco-zones, which means the vehicle-free game viewing here is a cut above the crowded main park roads.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Four distinct eco-zones on the concession make Singita Lebombo exceptional for birding. Guides can tailor drives and walks toward specific species. The location near the Mozambique border adds range diversity not found deeper in the park.
The roof terrace on the wine studio building serves as a private stargazing platform. The remote location and near-zero light pollution make for exceptional skies. Guests can also sleep out on their suite decks under mosquito netting.
Track animals on foot through the wilderness with expert guide and tracker. An entirely different perspective on the bush — plant life, smaller fauna, and tracks that you simply can't see from a vehicle. Minimum age 16 for full bush walks.
Morning and afternoon game drives in open Land Rovers with expert guides and trackers. Maximum 6 guests per shared vehicle. Private vehicles available on request (subject to availability and additional cost). The 33,000-acre private concession means no other tour operators — just Singita vehicles and guests from Lebombo and Sweni.
A dedicated children's programme including animal tracking, astronomy, bush survival techniques, game/tree/bird-spotting competitions, and nature quizzes. Culminates in a certificate. Also available: cooking interactions, board games, arts & crafts, movies, and swimming.
Guided mountain bike safaris through the concession, accompanied by experienced guides and trackers.
A state-of-the-art demonstration studio at Lebombo Lodge. Guests can take part in pre-arranged cooking classes led by a professional chef — either a traditional South African dish or a signature dish from the Liam Tomlin tapas menu. The school also produces internationally qualified commis chefs every year as part of Singita's community upliftment mission.
Guests can sleep on elevated wooden viewing decks with nothing between them and the sky but mosquito netting — either from their own suite deck or in dedicated sleep-out setups on the concession.
25-metre lap pool in the main lodge area overlooking the river and surrounding wilderness. Mandatory between-drive relaxation.
Sommelier-led tastings in the three-storey Wine Studio, celebrating South African cultivars with food pairings. One of Africa's most impressive private safari wine cellars — some of the continent's most sought-after private reserve and vintage bottles.
Yoga sessions available at the lodge, integrated into the broader wellness offering.
