Sunset Tower Hotel
Old Hollywood glamour meets sober, understated luxury. Art Deco bones, walnut paneling, rose-colored lighting, live jazz. Discreet rather than flashy. The celebrity clientele comes here precisely because it doesn't feel like a scene — even though it very much is one.
No phones, photos, shorts, caps, or sandals permitted inside the Tower Bar — dress accordingly
Why It Matters
One of LA's most storied hotel addresses, with genuine 1929 Art Deco architecture and an A-list history that spans nine decades. The Tower Bar alone is reason enough to visit — maitre d' Dimitri Dimitrov is widely considered the best in the city. Listed on the 2020 Condé Nast Traveler Gold List.
A 1929 Art Deco apartment tower on the Sunset Strip, designed by Leland A. Bryant and now one of the most recognizable buildings in West Hollywood. Hotelier Jeff Klein bought the property in 2004 and transformed it into the 81-room hotel it is today. The New York Times called it 'Hollywood's Grand Dame Hotel' — and the tag fits. Former residents include Howard Hughes, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Elizabeth Taylor, and Bugsy Siegel. The rooms have been freshened with pale pink, cream, and brown tones, bespoke wallpaper by illustrator Donald Robertson, and limestone bathrooms. The building's bones are genuinely impressive: high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, and the kind of architectural detail you simply can't replicate.
