The Georgian
Old Hollywood Art Deco revival. Bold colors, tassel-trimmed velvet, curated vinyl, and a faintly theatrical air throughout. The kind of place that takes its aesthetic seriously without being po-faced about it.
Book a penthouse suite (Harlowe, Rusconi, or First Lady) for the best views — the corner Rusconi Suite gets wraparound ocean and mountain views unlike anything else in the hotel
Why It Matters
Michelin Key recipient (2025). One of the few surviving pre-war oceanfront hotels in Santa Monica, fully restored and operating under BLVD Hospitality with a genuinely distinct design identity. The Georgian Room — a subterranean jazz-and-steakhouse speakeasy — reopened after roughly 60 years of dormancy. Dick Van Dyke had his first paying gig here in 1948, and the room still runs live music Wed–Sat.
The Georgian is a 1933 Art Deco landmark on Ocean Avenue — that turquoise-and-gold mini-skyscraper you can't miss from the Santa Monica Pier. It opened as a Hollywood playground (Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe) and basically slept for decades before BLVD Hospitality — the team behind Soho Warehouse and the Ace Hotel DTLA — took it over and relaunched it around 2023. The result is 84 rooms with a confident design vocabulary: think Wes Anderson meets Cuban Art Deco, with Victrola record players in suites and on-call buttons for 'Champagne' and 'Dessert.' Two Italian restaurants, an art gallery, a library, and live jazz in a basement speakeasy complete the picture.
