The Jay
Contemporary California luxury. Warm minimalism with deliberate artistic DNA — think clean lines softened by wood, woven textures, and curated local art. The building's raw concrete exterior contrasts deliberately with the refined interiors. Business-friendly but genuinely appealing to leisure travelers too.

Why It Matters
The Jay is the latest reincarnation of an SF landmark that started life as the Park Hyatt in 1988, then became Le Méridien. The 2023 renovation by KHP Capital Partners and AvroKO completely transformed the property into one of the most design-forward hotels in the city. Dining is run by the Omakase Restaurant Group (the team behind Niku Steakhouse and Dumpling Time), lending Prelude a genuine culinary identity beyond standard hotel fare. It holds a Michelin Tablet designation, ranked #3 in Condé Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards for San Francisco hotels, and was named #1 Luxury Hotel in San Francisco by TimeOut in 2024.
A 360-room luxury hotel inside a 25-story Brutalist concrete tower at Battery and Clay, reopened in November 2023 after a full renovation. Interior design by AvroKO draws on the work of SF sculptor Ruth Asawa — warm tones, organic textures, calm-tone palettes — creating something that feels more like a high-end residential building than a traditional hotel. No pool, no spa, but the food and beverage program is genuinely excellent, and the Third Floor terrace with its fire pits and bay views has become a neighborhood draw.
