Peninsula Hong Kong
Grand colonial-era luxury with serious modern tech — Art Deco bones, marble everywhere, and a fleet of 14 Peninsula-green Rolls-Royce Phantoms out front. Old-world formality without being stuffy.
Book afternoon tea in the Lobby well in advance — walk-in seating is rare and waits can be long
Why It Matters
Hong Kong's oldest hotel, flagship of The Peninsula Hotels group, and widely considered one of the finest city hotels in the world. It was built to be 'the finest hotel east of Suez' — a standard it has never fully relinquished. The first French fine-dining restaurant in Asia (Gaddi's, 1953) is still here. So is the city's most famous afternoon tea. And it's still the only hotel in Hong Kong with its own helipad.
Hong Kong's oldest and most storied hotel, open since December 11, 1928. The Peninsula sits at the tip of Tsim Sha Tsui with direct views across Victoria Harbour, anchoring a six-storey Italianate original building to a 30-storey tower added in 1994. The gilded lobby — still serving afternoon tea to the sounds of a live string quartet — is one of the great public rooms of Asia, and the service standard here is genuinely its own category.
