Avenue of the Baobabs in November
Good time to visit
November is a reasonable time to visit Avenue of the Baobabs.
All Months
April through October is your sweet spot – Madagascar's dry season when the roads are passable and the skies are clear. But here's what most guides won't tell you: each month within this window offers something different.
April and May are ideal if you can handle some lingering humidity. The baobabs still have their leaves, creating a lusher, greener scene that's quite different from the stark beauty most people expect. Temperatures hover around 25-28°C (77-82°F), and you'll have fewer crowds.
June through August brings the coolest temperatures and the most dramatic silhouettes – the baobabs are completely bare, creating those iconic stark profiles against the sky. This is peak season though, so expect more tour groups, especially around sunset. Morning temperatures can drop to 15°C (59°F), so pack layers.
September and October offer a sweet compromise – still dry, warming up but not yet scorching, and the baobabs begin their transformation as new leaves start appearing. October can be particularly stunning as some trees begin flowering.
Avoid November through March unless you enjoy mud, impassable roads, and cyclone season. The wet season turns the dirt road into a quagmire, and many accommodations in Morondava close temporarily.
