Azores in January

Not the best time

January isn't ideal for Azores. Consider a different month.

All Months

May through October offers the most reliable weather, with July and August being warmest but also most crowded. September and October might be the sweet spot - still warm enough for swimming, fewer tourists, and lower accommodation prices. The shoulder months of May and June bring wildflowers and comfortable hiking weather, though you'll need layers as temperatures can swing from 60°F to 75°F in a day. Winter isn't off-limits if you don't mind cooler, wetter weather. December through March sees frequent rain and rough seas, but also dramatic storm-watching opportunities and rock-bottom hotel rates. The hot springs feel especially good in winter weather. Whale watching season runs April through October, with blue whales most common in spring. For hiking, avoid the wettest months of December and January when trails can be muddy and visibility poor. Keep in mind that weather can change quickly year-round - pack layers and rain gear regardless of when you visit.
