Banaue Rice Terraces in May

Great time to visit

May is one of the best months to visit Banaue Rice Terraces.

All Months

December through May offers the clearest skies and driest trails, but you'll miss the lush green of planting season. The terraces look most dramatic from June to September when they're flooded for rice planting – think mirror-like water reflecting the sky. But this is also rainy season, and trails become treacherous. October and November hit the sweet spot: harvest time means golden rice stalks, fewer crowds than dry season, and manageable weather. Avoid Holy Week in March and April when Filipino tourists pack the area. Early morning visits (6-8am) reward you with mist rising from the terraces and softer light for photos. The harsh midday sun washes out the green.
