January through March delivers Bansko's most reliable snow, with February being the sweet spot for both conditions and crowds. December can be hit-or-miss — some years you're skiing powder, others you're looking at man-made snow on brown slopes. March offers longer days and spring skiing vibes, though afternoons can get slushy. Avoid Bulgarian school holidays (late February) unless you enjoy lift lines. The mountain gets busy weekends year-round as Sofia residents make the three-hour drive south. For the best balance of snow, weather, and reasonable crowds, target mid-January or early March. Night skiing happens weekends from December through February, but the floodlit runs are limited. Weather can change fast in the Pirin Mountains — pack layers and waterproof gear regardless of the forecast.
