Belgium in August

Great time to visit

August is one of the best months to visit Belgium.

All Months

April through October works best, with each season offering different advantages. Spring brings fewer crowds and mild weather perfect for walking cobblestone streets. May sees tulip season and outdoor café culture returning. Summer means peak tourist season and peak prices, but also the longest days and warmest weather. July and August can hit 25°C (77°F), which feels tropical for Belgium. Every festival happens during summer – from Ghent Festival in July to Brussels Summer Festival. Fall delivers the best beer weather. September and October offer comfortable temperatures, fewer tourists, and peak brewing season. The leaves changing in the Ardennes make day trips spectacular. Winter gets dark and wet, but Christmas markets transform the cities. Brussels, Bruges, and Ghent all host markets from late November through early January. Hotel prices drop significantly, and you'll have museums mostly to yourself. Avoid November if possible – it's gray, rainy, and nothing special happens. March can be unpredictable weather-wise, but spring festivals start appearing. Weekends in Bruges get absolutely mobbed from May through September. Visit on weekdays if your schedule allows, or go very early morning before tour groups arrive.
