May through September gives you Bern at its most alive. The sun doesn't set until after 9 PM, giving you extra hours to explore those winding streets. Just book accommodation early — Swiss summer holidays coincide with everyone else's. Winter has its own magic if you can handle the cold. Christmas markets transform the old town into something from a fairy tale, complete with mulled wine steaming in medieval squares. But daylight ends by 5 PM, and some outdoor attractions close entirely. April and October offer sweet spots — fewer tourists, decent weather, and lower hotel rates. The autumn colors along the Aare are spectacular, and spring brings those famous Swiss wildflowers to the surrounding hills.
