Blue Mountains National Park in October
Great time to visit
October is one of the best months to visit Blue Mountains National Park.
All Months
March through May delivers the sweet spot — warm days, cool nights, and fewer crowds than summer. The autumn colors aren't as dramatic as Europe, but the golden light through the eucalyptus creates magic hour all day long.
Winter (June to August) brings crisp mornings and occasional snow dustings on the higher peaks around Mount Wilson. It's stunning but cold — pack thermals if you're hiking early. The upside? Crystal clear views and almost empty trails.
Spring (September to November) explodes with wildflowers, especially around Blackheath and Mount Tomah. But it's also peak season for school groups and tour buses. Visit midweek if possible.
Summer gets hot and crowded, especially around Christmas and New Year. The afternoon thunderstorms are spectacular but can make cliff walks dangerous. If you must visit in summer, start early — be on the trails by 7am to beat both heat and crowds.
Here's the insider tip: visit after rain for the most dramatic photos. The waterfalls flow stronger, the air is clearer, and that famous blue haze intensifies.
