Bodh Gaya in October

Great time to visit

October is one of the best months to visit Bodh Gaya.

All Months

October through March gives you the best weather for meditation and temple visits. Temperatures hover around 15-25°C, perfect for sitting outside under the Bodhi Tree for hours. December and January bring the most pilgrims, including occasional visits from the Dalai Lama. Avoid April through September unless you enjoy meditating in 40°C heat with monsoon humidity. The summer months empty out for good reason — even the most dedicated practitioners struggle with Bihar's brutal heat. December 8th marks Bodhi Day, when Buddha's enlightenment is celebrated. The entire town fills with monks in maroon and saffron robes, creating an incredible atmosphere. But book accommodation months in advance. February and March offer the sweet spot — pleasant weather, fewer crowds than winter peak, and spring flowers blooming around the temple complex. Early mornings in January can drop to 5°C, so pack layers for dawn meditation sessions.
