Brasília in May

April through September is prime time. Brasília sits on a high plateau, so temperatures stay comfortable even in Brazil's 'winter' - think 25°C days and 15°C nights. The dry season means blue skies and zero rain, perfect for photographing those concrete curves. But here's the trade-off: everything turns brown. The famous red earth shows through dying grass, giving the city a Mars-like quality that's actually pretty striking. October through March brings the rains and green landscapes, but also 35°C heat and afternoon thunderstorms that can ruin outdoor plans. May hits the sweet spot - still green from the rains but dry enough for comfortable walking. Avoid December and January if possible - it's when Brasília empties out for summer holidays, and many restaurants close. The city works best when its people are around to bring those concrete spaces to life.
