Ramadan affects restaurant hours and some cultural sites, but the evening markets become even more vibrant as families break their fast together. Avoid major Indonesian holidays like Lebaran unless you book accommodation well ahead. Prices double and transport gets chaotic as domestic tourists flood in from Jakarta and other cities.
