Canyonlands National Park in August
Not the best time
August isn't ideal for Canyonlands National Park. Consider a different month.
All Months
April, May, September, and October offer the sweet spot of comfortable temperatures and clear skies. Daytime highs hover around 70-80°F while nights drop to the 40s — perfect hiking weather. Spring brings wildflowers to the desert floor, though snow can linger on higher elevations into April. Fall delivers stunning light for photography as the sun sits lower in the sky. Summer means brutal heat with temperatures exceeding 100°F, making hiking dangerous during midday hours. But early morning starts (think 5 AM) can work if you're prepared. Winter brings snow and ice to higher elevations, though lower areas like the Needles can be pleasant on sunny days. The shoulder seasons also mean fewer crowds, which is saying something since Canyonlands never feels packed compared to other Utah parks.
