July and August bring peak crowds, peak prices, and peak traffic. But also peak everything else – warm ocean water (finally reaching 70°F), outdoor concerts, and that electric summer energy that makes the Cape special. Beach parking fills by 10 AM, restaurants require reservations, and hotel rates hit $400+ per night. September delivers the Cape's sweet spot. Ocean temperatures stay warm through early October, crowds thin after Labor Day, and you can actually find parking in Provincetown. Fall colors peak in mid-October, painting the cranberry bogs crimson. May and June offer decent weather with manageable crowds. Ocean water stays chilly (around 60°F), but you'll pay half the summer rates and actually enjoy driving Route 6. Many seasonal restaurants don't open until Memorial Day, though. Winter Cape Cod appeals to a specific type – think cozy inn fireplaces and storm-watching from Nauset Beach. Most attractions close, but you'll have places like Race Point Beach entirely to yourself. Just bundle up.
