Central Oregon in October

Summer owns Central Oregon. June through September brings 80-degree days, clear skies, and every outdoor activity you can imagine. But everyone else knows this too — expect crowds at Smith Rock and higher prices everywhere. Late spring and early fall hit the sweet spot. May and October give you decent weather with fewer people. The aspens turn golden in September, and you can still camp comfortably. Just know that higher elevation activities might be off-limits. Winter transforms the region. Mount Bachelor becomes a powder paradise, and the high desert looks stunning under snow. But many mountain roads close, limiting your options. Spring arrives late — don't expect consistent warm weather until May.
