Chile in April

Good time to visit

April is a reasonable time to visit Chile.

All Months

Chile's seasons are backwards from the north, running October through March for summer. But here's the complication — the country is so long that weather varies dramatically by region. The Atacama Desert stays dry year-round with massive temperature swings between day and night. Summer (December-February) brings crowds and higher prices but also the warmest weather for Patagonia. That's when Torres del Paine is accessible and the hiking is best. Shoulder seasons (October-November and March) offer the sweet spot — fewer crowds, decent weather, and better prices. Winter (June-August) means ski season in the Andes near Santiago, but most of Patagonia shuts down. The wine harvest happens March-April, making it perfect for valley visits. Here's what locals know: December and January are vacation months for Chileans, so beaches get packed and prices spike. Plan accordingly.
