Winter brings the fog back with a vengeance. December through February sees temperatures around 5-12°C and visibility measured in meters, not kilometers. It's atmospheric but frustrating for sightseeing. Chinese holidays like Golden Week in October mean crowds and higher prices. Book everything in advance or avoid entirely.
