Colca Canyon in September

Great time to visit

September is one of the best months to visit Colca Canyon.

All Months

April through September brings Colca Canyon's dry season - clear skies, minimal rainfall, and the best condor viewing conditions. May and June offer perfect weather with warm days and cool nights, plus green terraces from recent rains. July and August see the most visitors but also the most reliable sunshine and calm winds that condors love for soaring. September provides excellent conditions with fewer crowds as peak season winds down. The dry season means dusty trails but spectacular visibility - you'll see volcanic peaks clearly from 50 kilometers away. Avoid October through March when heavy rains make hiking dangerous and clouds often obscure condor viewing spots. But here's the thing about high altitude - weather changes fast year-round. Pack layers even in dry season. Mornings start freezing at 3,600 meters, then warm up quickly once the sun hits the canyon walls. Condors are most active between 8 AM and 10 AM when thermal currents are strongest, regardless of season. Plan your Cruz del Cóndor visit accordingly.
