Columbia River Gorge in November
Good time to visit
November is a reasonable time to visit Columbia River Gorge.
All Months
Late spring through early fall gives you the best weather and access. May brings wildflowers and full-flowing waterfalls from snowmelt. The downside? Crowds at popular spots like Multnomah Falls.
Summer means perfect hiking weather but also peak tourist season. July and August see temperatures in the 80s with minimal rain. The Columbia River stays chilly year-round — around 65°F even in summer — but that creates the thermal winds that make Hood River a windsurfing mecca.
Fall might be the Gorge's secret season. September and October bring clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and the best colors. The vine maples turn brilliant red against the basalt cliffs. Plus harvest season means fresh fruit at the farm stands and new wine releases.
Winter gets overlooked but has its charms. The waterfalls freeze into ice sculptures, and you'll have the trails mostly to yourself. Just check conditions — snow and ice can make the Historic Columbia River Highway treacherous. Stick to lower elevation hikes like the paved trail to Multnomah Falls viewpoint.
