Copenhagen in May
Great time to visit
May is one of the best months to visit Copenhagen.
All Months
May through September gives you the best of Copenhagen, but each month brings different perks. June and July offer 17+ hours of daylight and perfect cycling weather, with temperatures around 20°C. This is peak tourist season, so book accommodation early and expect crowds at major attractions.
May and September provide the sweet spot – mild weather, fewer tourists, and lower hotel rates. September brings harvest season to the surrounding countryside, perfect for day trips to organic farms and vineyards in North Zealand. May offers the first outdoor dining weather and blooming parks.
August means festival season. Copenhagen Jazz Festival fills the streets with free concerts, while Culture Night opens museums and galleries for one massive city-wide party. But it's also when half of Europe descends on the city.
Winter has its charms if you embrace hygge culture. Christmas markets, cozy cafes, and the chance to see Copenhageners in their natural habitat. December through February averages just 7 hours of daylight, but Tivoli's Christmas decorations and glögg stands make the darkness magical. Just pack layers – the wind off the water cuts through everything.
