Costa Brava in January

Not the best time

January isn't ideal for Costa Brava. Consider a different month.

All Months

May through October offers the best weather, but each season has its character. May and June bring mild temperatures, blooming wildflowers, and empty beaches. The water's still cool (around 18°C), but perfect for hiking the coastal paths. July and August see peak crowds and prices, but also the warmest water (24°C) and longest days. Book accommodations well in advance. Many restaurants that close in winter reopen for the summer season. September and October might be ideal—warm water, fewer crowds, and restaurants still serving full menus. October can bring rain, but also dramatic skies that photographers love. Winter transforms the Costa Brava into something entirely different. Many coastal restaurants close, but inland towns like Girona and Figueres maintain their cultural offerings. Hotel prices drop significantly, and you'll have the dramatic winter coastline largely to yourself.
