Cotswolds in December
Not the best time
December isn't ideal for Cotswolds. Consider a different month.
All Months
May through September gives you the best weather and longest days, but also the biggest crowds. July and August see coach tours and school holidays pack the popular villages. For the sweet spot, aim for late April through May or September into early October. Spring brings bluebells in the woods and lambs in the fields. Autumn delivers golden light that makes those limestone walls glow. Winter has its charms – cozy pub fires, empty walking trails, Christmas markets in Cirencester – but many attractions close and daylight fades by 4 PM. Weather stays mild year-round thanks to the Gulf Stream, but pack layers. Morning mist is common, especially in valleys, and afternoon showers can appear from nowhere. The Cotswolds looks beautiful in any weather, but if you're planning outdoor activities, check forecasts carefully. Many walking trails become muddy and slippery after rain, particularly the clay paths around the Slaughters villages.
