Cyclades in December

Not the best time

December isn't ideal for Cyclades. Consider a different month.

All Months

May through October gives you swimming weather, but each month brings different trade-offs. May offers wildflowers covering hillsides and €80 hotel rooms that cost €300 in July. The sea's still chilly at 18°C, but hiking weather is perfect. June hits the sweet spot — warm enough for beach days, cool enough for exploring, and restaurant terraces aren't packed yet. July and August bring guaranteed sunshine and 26°C seas, but also cruise ship crowds and prices that'll make you question your life choices. A basic Santorini hotel room hits €400 nightly in August. Every sunset spot becomes a human zoo. September might be the secret best month. The sea reaches peak warmth at 24°C, crowds thin out after August 15th (Greek vacation ends), and restaurant owners remember how to smile. October works for culture vultures — museums and archaeological sites become pleasant instead of furnaces. But ferry schedules start getting sketchy after October 15th. Winter? Most tourist infrastructure shuts down November through March. Locals use this time to renovate and recover from summer madness. A few restaurants stay open, ferry connections drop to twice weekly, and hotel prices plummet to €30 nightly. It's actually beautiful if you don't mind wind and the occasional rainy day. The meltemi winds blow strongest July through September, keeping temperatures bearable but making small boat trips uncomfortable. They're your friend in August, your enemy when trying to catch ferries.
