Split's palace feels more authentically Roman. But ferry schedules reduce dramatically, and many tourist services shut down entirely. Shoulder seasons mean variable weather. Pack layers and waterproof gear. But you'll have major sites largely to yourself, and locals have time for actual conversations instead of rushed transactions.
