Dijon in July
Great time to visit
July is one of the best months to visit Dijon.
All Months
May through September gives you Dijon at its most welcoming. The weather stays mild, outdoor café terraces open, and the city feels alive. But honestly, each season has its charm.
Spring arrives early here – by April, the Parc de l'Arquebuse blooms with tulips and the outdoor markets resume full swing. Temperatures hover around 15°C, perfect for walking but pack layers for cool evenings.
Summer brings festival season. The Festival International de Folklore fills the streets with music in early September, and Les Estivales de Dijon runs outdoor concerts through July and August. Hotel prices peak but rarely feel unreasonable.
Fall might be the secret best time to visit. September and October offer warm days, fewer crowds, and harvest season in the surrounding vineyards. Many wine estates open their doors for tastings, and the autumn light makes those medieval facades glow.
Winter has its own appeal if you don't mind the chill. The Christmas market on Place de la Libération runs from late November through December, and indoor attractions like the Musée des Beaux-Arts never feel crowded. Plus, this is when locals really claim their city back.
Avoid the first two weeks of August when many restaurants close for vacation. It's frustrating to find half the city shuttered just when the weather's perfect.
