Docklands in December
Not the best time
December isn't ideal for Docklands. Consider a different month.
All Months
April through September gives you the best shot at decent weather for all that outdoor walking. The Thames Path becomes genuinely pleasant when you're not battling wind and rain. Greenwich Park shows off in late spring with the cherry blossoms near the Royal Observatory.
Summer weekends transform the area. Families flood the riverside, outdoor markets appear, and restaurants extend their terraces. But tourist crowds thicken, especially around the Cutty Sark and National Maritime Museum.
Winter has its charms if you can handle the cold. Christmas markets pop up around Canary Wharf, and the towers look dramatic against grey skies. Plus, hotel rates drop significantly. Just pack layers - that Thames wind cuts right through you.
Avoid weekday rush hours (7-9am, 5-7pm) unless you enjoy being sardined into DLR carriages with stressed bankers. The area empties out after 8pm on weeknights, leaving you with limited dining options.
