Dordogne in June

Great time to visit

June is one of the best months to visit Dordogne.

All Months

May through September offers the best weather, but each season brings different rewards. Spring (April-May) means fewer crowds and lower prices, plus the countryside explodes with wildflowers. Château gardens open their gates, and restaurant terraces welcome diners back outdoors. Summer (June-August) brings perfect weather but also peak crowds and prices. Book accommodations months ahead, especially in Sarlat. River activities hit full swing, and evening markets extend into the night. Early fall (September-October) might be the sweet spot — warm days, cool nights, and harvest season. This is truffle time, when markets fill with the region's black gold. Autumn colors paint the Périgord forests in gold and red. Winter (November-March) sees many attractions close, but locals reclaim their towns. Truffle season peaks in January and February, when Sarlat's Saturday market becomes a treasure hunt. Hotel rates drop by 40%, and you'll have châteaux nearly to yourself. Just check opening hours — many sites operate reduced schedules or close entirely. Weather stays mild compared to northern France, but pack layers for chilly mornings in stone buildings.
