Drakensberg in February
Not the best time
February isn't ideal for Drakensberg. Consider a different month.
All Months
April, May, September, and October offer the sweet spot. Clear skies, mild temperatures, and minimal rain make hiking pleasant. Summer (December to February) brings afternoon thunderstorms that can turn streams into torrents. The lightning shows are spectacular but dangerous if you're caught on exposed ridges. Winter (June to August) means crisp mornings, clear days, and possible snow on high peaks. It's beautiful but cold – temperatures can drop below freezing at night. Spring wildflowers in September and October are worth timing your visit for, especially in the Royal Natal area. Avoid school holidays if possible – South African families pack the popular spots during December and Easter.
