East Tennessee in April

Great time to visit

April is one of the best months to visit East Tennessee.

All Months

October brings peak fall colors and peak crowds. Hotels book months ahead, and traffic crawls through Gatlinburg. But those Smoky Mountain views? Worth the hassle. April and May offer wildflower blooms and mild weather perfect for hiking. Trilliums carpet the forest floor, and waterfalls run full from spring rains. September gives you warm days, cool nights, and fewer tourists than peak summer. Summer means hot, humid days and packed attractions. Dollywood hits capacity regularly, and mountain trails feel like saunas. Winter stays mild compared to northern states, but mountain roads ice over. Many Gatlinburg attractions close January-February, though you'll find cheap hotel rates.
