Eastern Europe in May
Great time to visit
May is one of the best months to visit Eastern Europe.
All Months
May through September gives you the sweet spot - warm weather, long days, and everything open. July and August bring crowds to Prague and Dubrovnik, but the rest of the region stays pleasantly uncrowded. June hits the perfect balance: 22°C days, minimal rain, and shoulder season prices. September might be the secret weapon - summer weather lingers, crowds thin out, and you get that golden autumn light perfect for castle photography. Winter has its charm but comes with trade-offs. Prague's Christmas markets in December create a magical atmosphere, but daylight lasts only 8 hours and temperatures hover around freezing. Many coastal attractions in Croatia shut down November through March. Spring arrives late - April can still be chilly and rainy, though hotel prices drop significantly. If you're budget-focused, visit in May or September. If you want to experience thermal baths and Christmas markets, December through February works, just pack warm clothes and accept shorter sightseeing days.
