Eastern Kansas in February
Good time to visit
February is a reasonable time to visit Eastern Kansas.
All Months
April through May offers the sweet spot. Wildflowers carpet the prairie, temperatures hover in the 70s, and you avoid both summer heat and winter wind. The Flint Hills turn green in ways that surprise people who think Kansas is all brown. Fall runs a close second - September and October bring comfortable weather and prairie grasses that wave golden in every direction. Summer gets hot and humid, with temperatures pushing 95°F regularly. But summer also means county fairs, outdoor concerts in Lawrence, and longer daylight for prairie drives. Winter? Brutal. Not just cold, but windy cold that cuts through everything. Snow can shut down rural highways for days. Spring brings tornado season - April and May see severe weather warnings regularly. Check forecasts and have backup indoor plans. The prairie looks different in every season, but it looks best when you're not shivering or sweating through it.
