Estonia in January

Not the best time

January isn't ideal for Estonia. Consider a different month.

All Months

May through September gives you the best shot at decent weather, though 'decent' in Estonia means highs around 20°C in summer. July brings white nights – sunset happens after 10 PM – and every Estonian heads to their summer cottage. Book accommodations early during this peak season. June hits the sweet spot before the crowds arrive. The weather's pleasant enough for walking tours, restaurants open their terraces, and you can actually get reservations at popular spots. September extends the season with crisp air and fewer tourists, though some attractions start reducing hours. Winter tourism exists, mainly for Christmas markets and spa treatments, but daylight lasts about six hours in December. The medieval Old Town looks magical under snow, but temperatures drop well below freezing. If you're into that Nordic winter experience, pack serious layers. Avoid April – it's muddy, gray, and nothing's quite open yet. October can work if you like autumn colors, but expect rain and shortened museum hours.
