Galápagos Islands in August

Great time to visit

August is one of the best months to visit Galápagos Islands.

All Months

The Galápagos doesn't really do seasons, just two different shows. December through May brings warm water, occasional rain showers, and calmer seas — perfect for snorkeling and diving. This is when marine iguanas nest, giant tortoises mate, and flamingos build their mud cone nests. The water hits 80°F, and you can snorkel for hours without a wetsuit. But it's also the busiest time, especially around Christmas and Easter. June through November turns cooler and windier as the Humboldt Current brings nutrient-rich water from Antarctica. The seas get rougher, but the wildlife action explodes. Sea lions pup, blue-footed boobies perform their mating dances, and humpback whales pass through. The water drops to 70°F, so bring a wetsuit. This is also when the garúa mist rolls in, creating an otherworldly atmosphere in the highlands. Honestly, any month works here. Each season brings different wildlife behaviors, and the animals never take a vacation.
