Ghana in January
Great time to visit
January is one of the best months to visit Ghana.
All Months
November through March gives you the sweet spot - dry season with bearable heat. December and January are peak months when the harmattan winds bring cooler, dusty air from the Sahara. Temperatures hover around 80-85°F instead of the brutal 90s.
Christmas and New Year see Ghanaians return from abroad, creating a festive atmosphere but higher prices and crowded transport. Book accommodations early for this period.
April starts getting sticky before the rains arrive in May. The wet season runs May through October with daily downpours that flood Accra's streets. But here's the thing - rain brings lush landscapes and fewer tourists. Hotels drop prices 30-40%.
Rainy season isn't necessarily bad if you don't mind afternoon showers. Mornings often stay clear, and the countryside explodes in green. Just pack waterproof gear and flexible plans.
Avoid September and October when rainfall peaks. Roads become challenging and some rural areas get cut off. But February offers perfect conditions - dry, warm but not scorching, and great visibility for photos at the castles.
