May through September is when the Gold Coast truly shines. Oak Street Beach opens, the lakefront trail buzzes with runners and cyclists, and outdoor dining takes over the sidewalks. July brings the Taste of Chicago and summer festivals, but also crowds and $200+ hotel rates. September is the sweet spot — warm days, cool evenings, and the summer tourists have gone home. Winter? The lakefront turns brutal with wind off Lake Michigan, but the holiday decorations along Michigan Avenue are genuinely magical. Just pack layers. Lots of layers.
