Greenland in January
Not the best time
January isn't ideal for Greenland. Consider a different month.
All Months
Summer means June through August – Greenland's entire tourist season compressed into 90 days. July offers the warmest temperatures, longest days, and best access to remote areas. Expect highs around 50°F in coastal areas and 24-hour daylight north of the Arctic Circle.
June brings wildflowers to ice-free areas and the start of whale season. But ice still blocks many coastal routes, limiting boat access. This is shoulder season with lower prices but fewer activity options.
August marks peak season for everything. All tour operators run full schedules, wildlife viewing peaks, and hiking conditions are ideal. Also peak prices – expect to pay 30% more than June rates.
Winter visits from October through April mean Northern Lights season, dog sledding, and extreme cold. Temperatures drop to -40°F, but the aurora displays are world-class. Only for serious cold-weather enthusiasts.
September offers a compromise: fewer crowds, lower prices, and still-decent weather. But daylight hours shrink rapidly, and many seasonal activities shut down by month's end.
