Hill Country in August
Not the best time
August isn't ideal for Hill Country. Consider a different month.
All Months
Late March through May brings the wildflowers that put Hill Country on every Texas bucket list. Peak bluebonnet season hits in early April, but lupine and Indian paintbrush bloom through May. The downside? Every weekend warrior from Austin and San Antonio has the same idea. October and November offer perfect weather with fewer crowds — highs in the 70s and cool evenings perfect for campfires. Fall also brings harvest season at the wineries and peach orchards. Winter stays mild with occasional freezing nights, making it ideal for cozy German bakery visits and wine tastings without the summer heat. Summer gets brutal — 100-degree days are common from June through September. But the rivers and swimming holes like Jacob's Well in Wimberley provide relief, and early morning hikes on the Devil's Backbone are still pleasant before 9 AM.
