Historic Cairo in May
Good time to visit
May is a reasonable time to visit Historic Cairo.
All Months
October through March is your sweet spot — daytime temperatures hover around 70-75°F instead of the brutal 100°F+ summers. December and January are perfect for exploring on foot without melting into the ancient stones. Ramadan changes everything. The area gets quieter during the day as people fast, but comes alive after sunset with iftar celebrations and late-night shopping. It's actually a fascinating time to visit if you're respectful of the customs. Avoid July and August unless you enjoy feeling like you're touring the inside of an oven. The medieval buildings trap heat, and there's precious little shade in the courtyards. Spring (March-April) brings occasional sandstorms that coat everything in fine dust, but temperatures are manageable.
