Hong Kong in August

Not the best time

August isn't ideal for Hong Kong. Consider a different month.

All Months

October through April gives you the best weather — clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and low humidity. This is peak season, so book accommodations early and expect higher prices. December and January are perfect for walking around. Temperatures hover around 20°C (68°F), and you might even need a light jacket in the evenings. Chinese New Year (usually February) brings incredible energy but also crowds and some restaurant closures. March and April offer warm but not oppressive weather. The city comes alive after winter, and you'll find good hotel deals before summer hits. May through September is hot, humid, and typhoon season. Temperatures reach 35°C (95°F) with crushing humidity. But this is also when you'll find the cheapest flights and hotels. Indoor malls and restaurants crank the AC, making it manageable. Typhoon season peaks in August and September. Most storms pass without major disruption, but flights can get delayed. Avoid: Golden Week in early October when mainland Chinese tourists flood the city.
