Horseshoe Bend in August

Not the best time

August isn't ideal for Horseshoe Bend. Consider a different month.

All Months

Spring and fall rule here. March through May offers perfect hiking weather – warm days, cool mornings, and wildflowers if winter rains were good. September through November brings similar conditions with bonus fall colors along the river. Summer is brutal. Temperatures hit 100°F regularly, and the exposed trail becomes an oven. But if you must go in summer, start before sunrise – you'll have the place to yourself and catch incredible morning light. Winter works too, with crisp air and smaller crowds, though afternoon shadows can block the best views. For photography, the hour before sunset provides the warmest light on the red rock walls.
