May through June brings mild weather and blooming gardens without the summer crowds. September and October are peak season – the fall foliage along the Hudson River is spectacular, but expect higher prices and packed antique shops on weekends. Summer gets busy with city escapees, but the farmers market on Saturdays is worth braving the crowds. Winter can be harsh and many shops reduce their hours, though the town looks beautiful under snow. Avoid major holiday weekends unless you book months ahead – Hudson's limited hotel rooms fill up fast during peak times.
