Iceland in December
Not the best time
December isn't ideal for Iceland. Consider a different month.
All Months
June through September gives you the warmest weather and nearly 24-hour daylight. July temperatures reach a balmy 60°F, and you can actually swim outdoors (with a wetsuit). But summer also brings crowds and peak prices.
Winter offers Northern Lights from September through March, with the best viewing from October to February. You'll need serious cold weather gear – temperatures drop to 20°F regularly. Many Highland roads close from October to May.
Shoulder seasons work well if you're flexible. May and September have decent weather, fewer tourists, and lower prices. Just expect some attractions and accommodations to have limited hours or be closed entirely.
