Ipanema Beach in August

December through May delivers Ipanema's best weather – warm days, minimal rain, and that perfect beach temperature. January and February see the most crowds as it's peak summer and Carnival season. Hotel prices jump 40-50% during Carnival, and good luck finding a spot on the sand. March and April offer the sweet spot – still warm (averaging 28°C) but fewer tourists and better prices. The ocean stays swimmable year-round, never dropping below 22°C even in winter. May brings some of the year's best weather with clear skies and gentle breezes. Winter (June-August) means fewer crowds and hotel deals, but also cooler temperatures around 22-25°C. Still pleasant for beach walks and outdoor dining, just not ideal for all-day sunbathing. The trade winds pick up, making it perfect for surfing at nearby spots like Barra da Tijuca.
